After six weeks on Phuket we are on our island Samui now since December 21. Since we have been really fucked by this bastard Simon with his old and run-down shed called Villa Azur we are constantly moving and are faced with the challenge of the absolute peak season at Christmas and New Years Eve to find a new place to stay.
Unfortunately the last new and very cute villa (Villa Blue Horizon @ Sunway Villas (A1)) we had to leave after a few days already again.
But Sunway Villas by Anna is definitely on our list for the future.
Suan Pai - brand new cliff villa, right on the ocean, walking distance to 4 sandy beaches, centrally located between airport, Chaweng and Big Buddha. Very private and romantic eco-luxury villa with beautiful bamboo roofs and floors and unobstructed million dollar ocean view.
The description on the net was interesting. Unfortunately, time was short and so the actually absolutely obligatory visit tour had to be cancelled. We contacted Yo again, our reliable and really nice driver and let him drive us to the Cliff. The last meters of the access road went very steeply downhill and Yo got scared. He crawled back up the trail, preferring to bring our luggage down one by one on foot. Breakneck steps led downstairs to our new dwelling. It was a very windy day and the gusts whistled violently over the steep slope. Not really an Open-Hair-Day.
There we stood with our stuff and within two minutes we realized again that we were in the wrong place. Bamboo has its charm as long as it is in good condition. The romantic eco-luxury villa turned out to be a completely rotten hut of inferior quality. So trolleys in and straight out again and immediately texted Yo. Help!
Again, we had managed to get ourselves into the precarious situation of having to quickly find an alternative accommodation in the late afternoon. God knows, this was not the first time. Our learning curve is more like a flat line. We are starting to worry about our intellectual performance. Does retirement automatically implicate a limitation of mental capability due to lack of practice? Has our brain dried up?
A call to the brand new Melia Hotel brought no success, as it was fully booked. Probably the only hotel on the island supposedly fully booked. Never!
Anyway, what now? Yo knew what to do. His wife works in the accounting department of a hotel. If we wanted, he would take us there. Lots of rooms available. Free choice.
Chura Samui - stay tuned in the perfect combination between the quiet, Asian chic resort and the liveliness of Koh Samui.
So much for the advertising text on the net. If it weren't so tragic, it would almost be funny. We found ourselves in a twenty year old resort whose Asian chic was no longer quite recognizable. No matter, two days only. In fact, we had a choice between a simple second floor room with no view balcony or a beachfront bungalow with a large terrace and great ocean view including surf noise. This choice was an easy one: beachfront. It was already dark, so just trolleys in and off to dinner.
Back again, we unpacked only the most necessary. I put our wash bags in the bathroom - and suddenly stood in the open air! An outdoor bathroom! WTF? We both hate outdoor bathrooms. You're never alone. If you like company in the bathroom, that's OK. We prefer to have our peace and quiet. In the end, it also depends on the company. All the crawls and flies around. Only the lizards still hiding. How could this shit happen?
Since the reception was no longer occupied, we had to go through it now. It became an eventful night with numerous unwanted encounters, among them a swarm of nocturnal wild bees (this was completely new to us) and the biggest spider we had ever seen. It was the size of Alex's hand and looked very threatening just because of that and its brown-striped fur. As part of an emergency action - Alexandra's scream was unmistakable and its urgency could not be misunderstood - I first had to dispatch and then dispose the monster. The trash can was the lethal weapon and the later tomb. I felt anything but good about it but a man has to do what a man has to do.
In the morning immediate move to the boring room without a view, but on the second floor with closed bathroom and without subtenants. Very relaxing.
Where to now? We wanted to get out of the hotel again and decided to spend a few days in the middle of a Thai neighborhood. It was not really a nice place, but very simple, but also very interesting. We like Thai people very much and therefore feel comfortable in their company. Even if some of their habits seem strange. What needs getting used to are the olfactory impressions. This is not always pleasant.
After a few intense days, we had enough of up-close local color and decided to take a few days off from the constant search in the absolute high season and go to a hotel again - this time for a whole week.
