Use instead of waste: As of now, Lidl Austria is selling 4.5 kg mixed fruit and vegetable boxes at a fixed price of € 3 in all stores. The boxes contain fruit and vegetable products that have been removed from their original packaging or whose appearance no longer corresponds 100% to the visual specifications, but are still suitable for further processing.
Lidl: Save-me box against food waste
"This means that instead of disposing of the valuable products, we sell them off at a discounted price. We have already successfully tested the boxes in Salzburg and the customer response was very positive. That's why we have expanded the project to cover the whole of Austria. Our 'Save Me Box' is also good for the climate. After all, discarded food not only wastes precious resources but also causes unnecessary CO2 emissions," says Alessandro Wolf, CEO of Lidl Austria.
