Interesting reusable systems for food ordering and take-away

Trash from the delivery service goes against your grain? Here are a few sustainable ways to avoid disposables when ordering food and takeaway. Around 280,000 tons of disposable tableware are thrown away every year in Germany alone. In the meantime, however, there are various reusable or deposit systems that make it easier to avoid waste. But which offers are available where and how do they work? Raise the curtain on a selection of waste avoidance world changers.

1. pioneer in waste prevention: Recup

One look at the interactive map in the app shows: Recup is well on its way to offering reusable coffee cups nationwide throughout Germany. With Rebowl, the company now also has a bowl that restaurants, gas stations and the like can use to pack takeaway food. Registration is not necessary for the loan, the return is possible with all Partner:innen. Whether it's Munich's Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), Hamburg's Elbe Philharmonic Hall or Cologne Cathedral - the great city designs of the cups leave no landmark wanting.

2. enjoy deposit free: Vytal

The Cologne-based company Vytal has developed a reusable system for the catering industry that does not require a deposit. Within 14 days, the bowls, which are assigned via QR code, can be returned free of charge - after that, ten euros will be charged unless the deadline is extended for one euro. Participating restaurants are easy to find with the help of the Vytal app. Cooperation is particularly attractive for restaurateurs because they do not pay a flat rate, but only for each bowl that is actually used.

3. completely without plastic: Tiffin Loop

The chic stainless steel deposit containers from Tiffin Loop can so far be found primarily in restaurants in Bedburg and Hamburg. But there are also some partners in other cities, such as Cologne and Saarbrücken - the interactive map on the website tells you whether Tiffin Loop is already available in your city. A deposit of 15 euros is currently required for the high-quality containers.

4. less cardboard for your pizza delivery: Pizzabow

Instead of a whole pizza box, Pizzabow only has a small paper plate on which the pizza can be lifted out of a green reusable tray on tabs. According to the company's own figures, this saves up to 55% waste. In addition, a test phase is already underway, primarily in private households, to do away with cardboard altogether. "In the future, we will also integrate an app so that every epicure can immediately find his or her Pizzabow delivery service," says founder Hendrik Single.

5. find plastic-free places: Refill

Refill from Great Britain is now a worldwide movement. Originally, the idea was to find public places where people could fill up their own bottles with tap water free of charge. In the meantime, the interactive world map in the app and on the website also includes places where packaging-free food is available or packaging-free shopping is possible. What's particularly great is that anyone can add something to the app - so the range of waste avoidance options is growing all the time.

Anyone can be a waste prevention do-gooder - so can you!

If you like the idea of reusable or deposit in the catering industry, then you can easily help write this success story for our environment. Everybody can become active as a waste avoidance environment improver by using the existing offers. It is also good to tell others - especially people from the catering industry - about it. Furthermore, the Zero Waste concept is particularly desirable. Every small step toward all-encompassing waste avoidance is a big one for the environment.
